We learned this week about both elements of writing, and I was wondering if you thought the novel contained more of one element?
I believe that it has components of both. It's not a normal courtship novel, considering Jane is pursuing Mr. Rochester, and not the other way around. But, the Bildungs Roman in the story is plainly evident as we see Jane grow as a character.
The best books I've read over the course of my life have all had a good mixture of many thematic elements. From reading Jane Eyre, however, there are so many different themes in this novel it's very hard to tie this book down and say it has a "main theme". My overall opinion is that this book is a mixture of both and I can't wait to see what other elements Bronte will introduce later on.
