What happened to Helen Burns? Alexie E

At the end of chapter nine, readers learn that Helen Burns is sick and dying. She was not sick with typhus like most girls during that time in the book, but something else. The book tells us Jane fell asleep on Helen the night she died. So that leads me to my question, why did Helen die? Did she carry a disease? Readers also find out on Helens grave it states her name and the word "Resurgam" below it, meaning in Latin "I shall rise again." Is there a reason why resurgam was printed on her grave?

  1. I think that later in the book we might find out more about what really happened to Helen but for now I think she did have some kind of disease other than typhus. Maybe it was something new that none of the teachers or doctors had seen before so they did not know how to take care of her or how to cure her disease. Maybe Helen will come back as a ghost and that's the mystery to the story and why "Resurgam" was printed on her grave.
