Why does Jane want so badly to stay with the Reeds even though they abuse her?

When given the option to leave the Reeds and live with her distant family, Jane declines. She says it's because she doesn't want to be poor but is being poor really worse than the everyday abuse?

  1. I think she wants to stay because the Reeds have been telling her for her whole life how she is a dependent and how she needs them to survive. Also living with the Reeds has made her have somewhat of a privileged upbringing so she is probably afraid to be poor.

  3. When Jane thought of living poor she was horrified of the fact that she couldn´t improve her situation if she was poor. She wants to stay with the Reed´s so when she leaves to go to school and eventually get a job she can stay in the Reed´s caste level.
