"In Our Time" Podcast, Sierran Nutter

Pros:
All of the ladies speaking know what they are talking about and know how to say it so that it is easily understood.  They are able to really go in depth about how Charlotte Bronte's life is similar to the life of Jane Eyre in the novel.  I really like how much they are able to talk about the similarities between the character and the author.

Cons:
This may sounds weird for me to say, but it wasn't long enough.  They could have gone far more in depth about each other topics.  By the end they were rushing the questions and it was hard to comprehend.

In the beginning of the podcast the speakers are talking about Bronte's father, Patrick.  He was a very extraordinary man who was highly educated.  He made sure that his children were educated.  He made them read books as much has they could and helped them when he could.  He also sent the children to a school that is the equivalent to Lowood in the novel.  Even though the school was not known for great things he sent them there for the teachings and the religion.  Patrick really wanted his kids to be smart.  In Jane Eyre, Jane was always trying to read when he was living with Mrs. Reed even though it was hard for her to do.  And during her time at Lowood she was trying to learn no matter how hard it was to be there.  Then she started teaching so that others could be educated as well.  And the Jane went to be a governess to Adele at Thornfield Hall and through out her time there she was always trying to read and learn new things.

  1. I agree that Jane is a knowledge-hungry character. She tries hard, and that trait in her definitely originated in Bronte herself. Bronte had a tough life, with several dead family members, but still managed to do great things.

  3. I agree that the way Charlotte Bronte was raised to love reading really translates to Jane, who also shares a love for literature. Bronte over came many obstacles in her life, and Jane does as well.

  4. I agree that the podcast wasn't long enough. They didn't talk in depth about a lot of the topics they talked about. It was pretty much just a quick summary over what the book meant in terms of Bronte's life. I also agree that Bronte and Jane share similar characteristics in the fact that they both love education and learning more.

  5. I agree that Jane was a very smart character. I think she strived to have a better education by learning and reading. I agree that his father did want the best for his daughters. The podcast also did not go into complete depth and I felt as though it was rushed.
