Why do you suppose Jane is able to win a victory for the first time over Mrs. Reed? -Abbi Morse
In the beginning of Jane Eyre the readers start to observe how horribly Jane is treated by the Reed family. Why do you think Jane was finally able to stick up for herself and talk back to Mrs. Reed?
I believe that Jane was finally able to stick up for herself because she knew that she would be leaving for school soon. She basically thought that she can't really do anything to her that she hasn't done before and she wouldn't be living with them for much longer.
