Why does Mr. Rochester act so different around Jane? Brittany Florer

What are Mr.Rochester's motives when it comes to Jane? Does he feel a certain way towards Jane that he doesn't want to feel? Is Jane changing him?

  1. In my opinion, Mr. Rochester feels drawn towards Jane. He feels multiple connections with her. Upon his meeting with Jane, he says, "when I was as old as you...(Bronte 142). In these lines, Bronte is signifying the difference between the two, their age. Mr. Rochester is supposed to seem more of a father figure to Jane as he tells her stories of his life adventures. Another example of their relationship, as Jane thinks to herself after Mr. Rochester leaves how silly it is for her to think Mr. Rochester would fancy her above other woman. Yet, she can't help recall the night when Mr. Rochester "paused; gazed at me; words almost visible trembled from his lips...(Bronte 163). Therefore, one can conclude many different feelings are happening between Jane and Mr. Rochester. Overall though, I feel their age difference only draws them closer together, making Jane feel the love she has always wanted from someone.
