I think that he finds her entertaining just because she is new. He already knows Adele and Mrs. Fairfax so he is tired of their company. He doesn't know Jane very well yet so he is entranced with her. Also, Adele is a child, so to him she is very far beneath him and not worthy of his attention. He thinks the same thing of Mrs. Fairfax because she is not as educated as Jane. Even though Jane is educated, she is still beneath him because she works for him. She is still treated like a child occasionally, but for the most part she is an equal to him. So essentially, he likes her more because she is new and she's educated, and just different than anyone else that Mr. Rochester knows.

Why does Mr. Rochester appreciate Jane's company so much more than Mrs. Fairfax's or Adele's? -Kate Millington
When Mr. Rochester asks Jane to join him in front of the fire, he tells her that she is much better company than Mrs. Fairfax or Adele. He tells her to talk about herself, but why? Why does he find Mrs. Fairfax to be so boring when she is closer to his age than Jane is? He tends to treat Jane like a child sometimes but he is still much more entertained by her company than by anyone else's.

I feel like Mr. Rochester likes having Jane around because she brings the best out of him without realizing it. She may be in a lower class, but I think she's treated more equally compared to Mrs. Fairfax and Adele. Jane also speaks what's on her mind and I think Mr. Rochester likes that about her. I think that he gives Jane a bit of a hard time to show that he is charge and in a higher class.
ReplyDeleteI think that he appreciates her company more because he is attracted to her. I think Jane is the only one of the trio that he would be able to be attracted to. Adele is too young, and possibly even his daughter. Mrs. Fairfax is somehow related and if I remember correctly she is quite older than he is, thus ruling her out. Mr. Rochester sees Jane as a romantic companion and that is why he enjoys her presence more.
