Why does Mr Rochester ask Jane about herself, even though she's a subordinate? -Hanna H

Why does Mr. Rochester ask Jane questions such as if she will allow him to talk abrubtly at times, and inquiring more about her past? He doesn't seem to do this with any of the other housemaids or servants.

I think he is more interested in Jane because she is different from anyone he's had work for him before. She speaks her mind more, and it intrigues him.

  1. Mr. Rochester has never met a girl like Jane before and finds her interesting. She speaks her mind because she feels that being herself is better than trying to make people like her. Mr. Rochester has never met a girl like her before and doesn´t know how to treat a girl he likes.
