I'm getting salty because Charlotte Bronte gives a French sentence and then doesn't tell what it means. That is frustrating and if the reader doesn't know what it means, it's obviously not contributing to the story. I wish she would include translations. Knowing a few French words is not enough to piece these sentences' meanings together.
I guess I don't really have an answer for this question but I think that maybe she wants to show Jane's fluency in French. Maybe it's to show how accomplished she is? I don't know but it really is irritating. I want to know what it says.
