Jane's punishment for her 'behaviors' is the "Red Room"- why is entitled such and what does it symbolize?

  1. The room is called the "Red Room" because Uncle Reed died in the bed that sits in there. So the room symbolizes death.

  2. often times the color red symbolizes death or hell and having Mrs. Reed send her go to a room where someone has died and that shows so much negative energy tells us a lot about how the Reeds feel about her

  3. Red is a very emotional color. For some, it can symbolize love and passion, but for others it can be associated with blood, fire, and war. Previously, the Red Room was Mr. Reed's chamber, and also the room where he took his last breath. Jane states that the Red Room is rarely slept in or stepped foot in, which makes it unusual for Jane to be sent to the Red Room for punishment. I have a feeling that us readers will receive more information about the Red Room throughout the continuance of the novel.
