Why was Mrs. Fairfax the first and only person really that Jane became friends with at Thornfield? -Megan Sikkink

When Jane first arrived at Thornfield, Mrs. Fairfax was the first person that she met and was the first one to welcome her to the house. She showed Jane around and introduced her to Adele and Jane felt a friendship starting to form with her. Mrs. Fairfax told her about Mr. Rochester and how often he comes around and possible reasons why he would not stay for very long.

  1. I think it's because Jane can actually relate to Mrs. Fairfax, when she first talks to her she thinks that Mrs.Fairfax is the master of the house but she's really just a servant. When she finds out differently she is pleased. I think the reason they can be friends is because Mrs Fairfax is on the same level as Jane, for once in Jane's life, and they need Jane's help. So Jane feels like she actually cares for her and that's why she took an instant liking to her.
