Would Jane's life have been different or easier for her if she had been pretty?-Lindsey

Jane Eyre is considered by others to be plain in looks. She wasn't the stereotypical beauty like Georgiana. so I wonder if her aunt would have been kinder to her, or if she wouldn't have been hurt by John Reed, and if her life would've been easier if she had been prettier.

  1. I think that Jane Eyre's life would have been significantly easier if she was pretty. During this time period, looks was something that was truly valued, and a person could have been treated differently if they were prettier than someone else. A person's social status was looked upon more than beauty was, but beauty still played a factor in how certain people viewed others. I feel like John Reed wouldn't have treated Jane any differently if she was beautiful, because she is an orphan living in his house. Mrs Reed might have thought of her not as an orphan, but a family member because she is the mother of the family and should be able to look after her orphan niece without making a problem of it.
