So far the book Jane Eyre has characters and settings, seemingly familiar to books such as Les Miserables and the Hunchback of Notre Dame. What kind of ending, based off these two books, will Jane Eyre have? Is this book a comedy or a tragedy? What other books could this one be compared to?
Nice questions, Ericka. I hope some of your peers will comment. In the meantime, what specific connections do you see to the two titles you mention?
ReplyDeleteI have also been thinking about this. Janes home life reminds me of Cinderella. She has two wicked cousins and an aunt that hates her. I have also been thinking that it is like Matilda. Mr brocklehurst is like the awful principle at Matilda's school and miss temple is like miss honey. I think that Jane eyre and Matilda can also be compared because they neither of them have very good home lives. I think this book will end like both of those stories in that Jane eyre will end up better because of her experiences and will probably find love.
ReplyDeleteLes Miserables and the Hunchback of Notre Dame both star characters that immediately gain the sympathy of the reader. The gloomy settings, the rain, and the characters thoughts are a lot alike, for their minds often confused between whether they should feel pity for themselves or show anger at others. The contain elements of Christianity, which also plays a role in the plot of the stories in how they affect the characters. Also the characters are not without their faults, not perfect heroes and heroines as was mentioned in the flip lessons. This element of a gothic novel is very recognizable and especially helped me to draw parallels from Jane Eyre to these two stories.
ReplyDeleteI actually also thought it was similar to Cinderella. Cinderella has her stepmom and stepsisters who are terrible to her after her dad dies, and Jane has her terrible aunt and cousins after her uncle dies. I feel like Jane Eyre will end in a happy way, not as extravagant as Cinderella's, and maybe she won't find true love either, but I believe that her live will significantly improve and the book will end on a happy note.
