Why does Mr. Rochester's attitude change towards Jane so much?- Lindsey

In their first official meeting Mr. Rochester was cold, moody, and very closed off. He insults her piano playing skills and also states that a master must have helped her with her drawings. However, on the second meeting he is smiling and more open towards her, even going so far as to ask her to talk more about herself. I think he acts differently the second time because Jane isn't like other women of that time period. She's reserved doesn't smile or laugh often but, she does speak her mind when she thinks it's necessary. She also gives views on different topics that even though he thinks her naive, he agrees with her statements.

  1. Jane is a kind of person that Mr. Rochester had never met before and he thinks that it's strange that she was able to live in one place for such a long period of time. She carries herself differently than other women in her time might have and he sees is curious about her life and what has shaped her to become the person that she is.
