What I Found Interesting
One of the topics mentioned was how Jane's life in the story was in some ways a reflection of Charlotte Bronte's life. I thought this was very interesting because before listening to the podcast, I did not know much about Bronte or her life. She wrote the book with vivid details on most of the experiences in Jane's life, and it makes sense that she did this because she went through these experiences herself. For example, Charlotte and Jane both thrive on rejection. This is mentioned in the podcast when the speakers touch on Bronte's book, The Professor, which was rejected by publishers nine times. This rejection only made Bronte more determined to get a novel published. Likewise, Jane was rejected and unwanted by the Reeds and this made her determined to live a better life. She became a great student, and later an even better teacher. Another example is when Charlotte Bronte went to Belgium and fell in love with a married man. He pointed out Bronte's inner self and helped her see how successful of a writer she could be. In Eyre Jane fell in love with Mr. Rochester, a married man. He helped Jane visualize her own inner strength, and showed her that she wasn't just a plain girl. After listening to the podcast I am left very curious about the rest of Bronte's life that was not mentioned, and will probably do some further research to compare Bronte's life to Jane's in the novel in more depth.

  1. I too did not know much about Charlotte's life before listening to this podcast. Like you said in your post, Charlotte is much like Jane. Some aspects in Jane Eyre I believe relate to Charlotte better than others. The example you mentioned about Charlotte having married an already married man was very interesting to me. This seems to really help tie Jane and Charlotte together.
